May 1, 2009 - Streamwood Magic Spring Fling Tournament
Kicking off their first tournament as a team, the 2009 Cary Crush 10U team played their first game Friday, May 1st against the Carol Stream Storm. With some aggressive base running, solid bats and solid pitching the Crush defeated the Carol Stream Storm handly in 3 innings of play.
May 2, 2009 An early 8 AM game is not the ideal time to play for most teams. The Cary Crush came out ready to play the Elk Grove Heat and jumped out to an early lead. When Elk Grove changed pitchers early in the first inning, it became increasingly more difficult to manufacture runs. The Cary Crush continued to fight hard losing 10 - 4 in a tough battle.
The next game was ready to begin after a short break. Now the Cary Crush would face the Palatine Stingers. Through 2 innings of play the game was a nail bighter with a tie score of 2 runs each. It was then that the Cary Crush's bats came alive. With runners on and a delayed steal, the Cary Crush began to build confidence routing the Stingers to a 13 - 3 victory.
May 3, 2009 Sunday morning, another early 8 AM game against the Carol Stream Storm a second time. They were ready to play and they didn't want to lose again. The Cary Crush were not ready to go home as they continued to play hard and Allison threw 14 K's to rout the Crush to another big victory.
The next opponent would be against the Oak Park Windmills who are known for having a solid girls fastpitch softball program. The Crush continued to get hits, lay down bunts, and playing solid defense continuing to demonstrate that they deserved to play in the championship game. Rachael was solid behind the plate throwing out 2 runners stealing bases at both 2nd and 3rd as the Cary Crush went on to win 11-3 advancing to the Championship game.
The championship game would be against the Elk Grove Heat that they faced on Saturday morning. The girls from both teams were tired but were looking forward to the rematch. Neither team was willing to give in as the Cary Crush fought hard in the loss 3-6. The Cary Crush won 2nd Place in the 2009 Streamwood Magic Spring Fling. Congratulations!!!
May 10, 2009 The month of May was plagued with rain causing quite a few rainouts and rescheduled games, but we were able to get this game in playing at Lake Zurich. The girls really stepped up their game to beat Lake Zurich 19-5.
May 16, 2009 Schaumburg Slugfest, NSA Qualifier Tournament
The rains continued to make for a trying time as pool play was cancelled for the Schaumburg Tournament. With a blind draw to enter the elimination bracket play, we faced the Roselle Rampage as we gave up the game 14-4.
May 17, 2009 As it would turn out, Roselle would go on to lose to the Illinois Outlaws forcing a rematch between our teams in the consolation bracket. Our girls were looking to advance and had no desire of going two and out. Being aggressive on the bases with 26 stolen bases, we would go on to a shutout victory 9-0 giving up only 3 hits the entire game.
Advancing to the semi-final game of the consolation bracket we faced Glen Ellyn who would get out to an early lead that would force us to play catch up. And that they did with DQ getting a clutch triple and some key base hits, we would battle back to within 3 runs having bases loaded in the bottom of the final inning. With one out the Glen Ellyn 2nd baseman would make a great stretch taking her off the base to extend between her and the ball lying on the ground but with the umpire still behind home plate wasn't able to see the angle causing the 2nd out of the inning and taking the wind of our sails as the final would be 11-14 giving us 3rd place in the consolation bracket of the Schaumburg Slugfest, NSA Qualifier Tournament.
May 19, 2009 Traveling to Huntley, every one of the girls were ready to play their "A" game and take our their tournament frustration on someone and Huntley was the next target. Working our depth chart and being aggressive on the bases with 38 stolen bases, our girls would be victorious 16-9.
May 20, 2009 Finally a home game, and not just any home game but agains the Crystal Lake Tidalwaves. Aggressive base running from both teams in an old fashion grudge match would end this game in the only tie of the season 8-8. |
