Congratulations to the 10U Cary Crush on their 1st Place finish in the Warren Wave Wipeout 2009 tournament in Gurnee to wrap up the 2008-09 season.
Friday, July 24th, early afternoon, they opened the tournament against the Wisconsin Lightning, a team they have never faced. The Wisconsin Lightning played very well but fell one run shy as the Cary Crush would win the game 5-4 with Jordyn's game winning RBI single in the bottom of the last inning.
With a game break and a victory under their belt, the Cary Crush knew the Libertyville Cats would not give up easy as the teams had faced off against each other 4 times in the past few weeks. With these two evenly matched teams the fans and parents would get an exciting game to watch as the battle would come down to the final pitch finishing in a 4-4 tie.
Saturday, July 25th, 8 am games are never anyones favorite, but the Cary Crush would take on the Northern Ice to finish pool play. With changes in the lineup, the Northern Ice would be victorious 10-3, forcing the Crush to be the #2 seed going into championship play.
The afternoon game vs the Waukesha Blazers would be another character builder, but the Cary Crush would again be victorious 5-2.
Sunday, July 26th, the semi-final game again vs the Libertyville Cats. The Cary Crush team was ready and began the day with a determination to play one more game. From the first pitch, every player would make contact with the ball, bunting, hitting, slapping, taking good pitches, and outstanding base running to win 10-2 advancing to the championship game.
The championship game and final game of the 2009 Cary Crush 10U team vs the Northern Ice would be a 7 exciting innings of solid softball. With no score after 2 inning of play, the Cary Crush would have a breakout inning to score 6 runs giving them a formitable lead. The Northern Ice weren't about to give up as they would continue to battle back taking a run anywhere they could get it. With Cary's tough pitching, solid defense, and championship spirit, they would hold off to win the final game of the season, 7-6 securing the 1st Place Championship in the 5th Annual Warren Wave Wipeout, in Gurnee, IL.
